Welcome to the CrossClave community! We're very excited that you've joined us and hope you'll have a great experience using CrossClave.
As you are getting started with CrossClave, there are some important terms you need to know which will help you as you set up your account and join a team:
- Team Join URL
- Recovery Phrase
- License Key
- Account ID
Understanding what these terms mean, where to find each of them, and how they appear in the onboarding process will help you create your account and join your team.

Team Join URL
CrossClave can connect to any server running the CrossClave backend services. This includes the commercial CrossClave instance run by SpiderOak, but could also include on premise installations or installations hosted on AWS or Azure. If your team has a non-standard or on premise deployment, the team admin will provide you with a Team Join URL. In most cases, you should use the Team Join URL below.
The Team Join URL instructs CrossClave which server to connect to. To connect to the commercial CrossClave servers run by SpiderOak, please use the following Team Join URL:
https://flow-block.cloud.spideroak.com/7d16a77b34e4df80370e44d40ad2cb01d07ca44588860173d834e23379b028e8
When creating your account, this is the first piece of information CrossClave will prompt you to enter after clicking the Sign Up or Log In button.
Recovery Phrase
After entering the Team Join URL, you'll be presented with a Recovery Phrase. This is essentially the password for your CrossClave account. Your Recovery Phrase is a long string of English words separated by spaces.
Your Recovery Phrase is very important! You can use the Recovery Phrase if you need to install CrossClave on a different computer or reinstall after a system upgrade. This is the only time when you will be presented with the Recovery Phrase, so please be sure to record it somewhere safe. It should never be shared with another CrossClave user.
As noted on the screen, SpiderOak cannot retrieve your Recovery Phrase if you forget it. It is essential that you record your Recovery Phrase somewhere safe so you can retrieve it in the future if needed. You can highlight the text of the Recovery Phrase and use a keyboard shortcut to copy, or simply click the Copy button. After recording the Recovery Phrase, click the Continue button.
On the next screen please paste in your Recovery Phrase. This is a final check to make sure you have the Recovery Phrase correctly recorded. After pasting in the Recovery Phrase, click Sign Up.
License Key
Team owners use a License Key, which is purchased from https://crossclave.spideroak.com, to create a team. If you are a team owner and need to purchase a license key, please see the article Getting Started Guide for Team Owners.
Account ID
As an end user, you don't need to enter a License Key. Instead, simply re-enter the Team Join URL in the Add Team section.
https://flow-block.cloud.spideroak.com/7d16a77b34e4df80370e44d40ad2cb01d07ca44588860173d834e23379b028e8
After entering the Team Join URL, you will receive their Account ID. Your team owner uses your Account ID to add you to their team. Send your team owner your Account ID using email, a messaging app, or via whichever method is acceptable in your organization. Once the team owner has your Account ID, they can add you to the team.
